Day One Youth Advocates, Jennifer Jimenez, Jasmine Cedillo, Alan Vargas and Steve Lopez along with Day One staff were in attendance at Youth Quest 2013 and had a great time at the conference! The day started with a workshop regarding tips on how to conduct meetings with local legislators and an educational presentation on the topic of secondhand smoke. Youth also participated in a poster making session in which they created posters that illustrated smoke-free declarations and images, which were displayed during a march to the State Capitol building in order to hold a press conference to raise awareness surrounding secondhand smoke issues.
Day One Youth Advocates also had the opportunity to meet with legislators the represent the greater Pasadena area, including Assemblymember and Majority Whip Chris Holden and Senator Carol Liu. Day One provided information on current tobacco prevention efforts in the community and shared their experiences as Youth Advocates. This year, over 600 California youth attended the Youth Quest conference and Day One was proud to attend and to share stories regarding our tobacco prevention efforts in the community!
