This is the first time all three types of products (tobacco, alcohol, and food) have been analyzed together in stores that sell tobacco products. The survey findings include:
- Density of stores that sell tobacco and store proximity to schools
- Pricing and types of tobacco products being sold in stores
- Advertising and placement of tobacco, alcohol and food products
- availability of fresh fruits , vegetables and other healthy food
Thirteen statewide events took place simultaneously to promote the initiative. Euclid Market in Boyle Heights converted their store by eliminating alcohol and tobacco products, they also placed fruits and vegetables at the front of the store for easy access to the community. Residents of that community will now have healthy options when they go to that store. Youth Advocates shared their experience of conducting the survey with the media.
