Day One’s EMPOWER bringing fitness to a school near you!
El Monte, CA.– In partnership with Kaiser Permanente, Day One is taking the lead for community health by activating El Monte schools and parks to support school and City wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which helps educate residents and curb obesity.
Made possible by a generous grant from Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park, El Monte Providing Opportunities for Wellness Education and Recreation (EMPOWER) is a multifaceted, all ages program that offers FREE alternative physical activity and health education at public schools, parks and other sites. Activities focus on, and are developed with, personal trainers, teachers, middle and high-school aged students, and their families to create sustainable behavior change.
Classes are held on a weekly basis at participating school/park sites with strategic purposes, including to:
● Maximize the use of green space available to the public by “activating” facilities and bringing community together;
● Engage the non-traditional sports population by offering fun, alternative physical activity opportunities;
● Promote worksite wellness initiatives among school site personnel to shift sedentary lifestyles;
● Present health and wellness related information to participants - such as how to build a healthy plate, what’s on a nutrition label, and how to shop on a budget.
