The reason why is relatively simple, sodium is hidden in many of the foods we eat, especially processed and restaurant foods. Unfortunately, far too many entrees at national restaurants and fast food establishments are loaded with salt, many times more than 2,000mg!
Why is this a concern, well, for one, too much sodium is bad for your health. Not only can it increase your blood pressure and risk for a heart attack or stroke.
Common foods that tend to be high in sodium:
- Canned soups (even low-sodium varieties often have high amounts of sodium)
- Processed meats (e.g., bologne, salami, chicken, hot dogs)
