This position is for a pilot program, aiming to increase the number of students walking to school at 9 campuses at PUSD.
This initiative is Pasadena’s first Safe Routes to School partnership. This effort will formally align the School District with the City and relevant stakeholders to educate school site administrators, parents, and students about pedestrian and bicycle safety; build multigenerational pedestrian and cyclist awareness; and mitigate traffic concerns by promoting a comprehensive, proactive behavior and infrastructure-based approach to securing safety along school routes and within school sites.
Parent Lead - This position requires a positive, friendly, energetic and engaged parent with excellent communication, and leadership skills. This person should be committed to contribute to the Safe Routes to School Initiative by making the City a safer place to bike and walk for students and adults alike.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead walks to and from school. Weekly to start, daily if warranted by demand (up to 2 hours a day/ 10hrs a week)
-Encourage student and parent participation in the program by distributing fliers, making announcements at parent groups, and using creativity to draw attention to the program. (Example. Dr. Seuss Walk to school day).
-Expand efforts to focus on engagement/best practice sharing within neighborhoods and other fellow school sites.
