Fire Safe Foothills
Fire Safe Foothills (FSF) is a wildfire preparedness education and outreach program established following the Eaton fire by the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) through partnership with Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE).
We help communities across the San Gabriel Valley foothills prepare for wildfire and build resilience through education, outreach, partnerships, and community engagement.

Why are foothill communities at higher wildfire risk?
The San Gabriel Valley foothills are part of the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), where homes and neighborhoods meet natural vegetation. These communities face increased wildfire risk due to:
• Dry vegetation (fuel) and seasonal drought
• Santa Ana winds
• Steep terrain that can accelerate fire spread
• Wind-driven embers that can ignite homes ahead of the main fire
